Even More Thoughts on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend

Okay, so it’s 6am and I’m nocturnal again (whatever) but still powering through episodes. In fact, I’ve just finished S4E5. Final Series! Yay, me.

In the previous one of these I talked about how I was feeling Nathaniel/Rebecca. Truth is… I haven’t been for a while. Actually, I’ve been missing Greg (looks like he might get a farewell episode) and starting to think that new Josh might work for Rebecca. I mean, new Josh has many of the same qualities as early Greg… he appears to be self-aware of his own issues. This is even basically Rebecca’s current status quo although I have to say I’ve seen absolutely zero signs that Rebecca would consider going back to Josh.

Honestly, it seems to me that the way this will end is with a single and fulfilled Rebecca. I guess that’s something a little disappointing if they go this way. After all, I’ve watched a lot of episodes in far too little time. And the whole show has been about Rebecca’s relationships. On the other hand, to the extent that the show is actually about Rebecca (ew, character studies), this seems the more appropriate happy ending. (But Greg! Shh… he has a girlfriend in, iirc, Atlanta and is happy.)

In other news, Heather and Hector got married. Also, it turned out I had seen one song from the future… the cat one. I assumed Heather/Hector would happen because I’d seen a pregnant Heather. Ooh, boy, that didn’t turn out how I expected. But, of course, no Darryl or baby so far in S4. I know Crazy Ex-Girlfriend was cancelled (and offered a final series) so I’m going to assume it’s like Scrubs… reduced budget, fewer episodes for lead actors (also no White Josh so far)… rather than the standard “disappearing kid” trope (which, to an extent, they did with Maddison for S1 and S2).

Beth/Valencia was out of the blue, but was very clearly telegraphed in the time skip episode. Also, I’m glad they time skipped. I think these kinds of stories need at least one substantial time skip.

Oh, and I found it weird that Rebecca quit the firm even though she had just started doing voluntary legal work. I know real people are weird and contradictory but, yeah. I can’t help but feel it’s a budget decision. Yes, it’s a new set (the pretzel shop) but it’s also less of the office staff (so fewer appearance fees or whatever).

Ooh… Go-Go Dancer Josh. I don’t know if it was meant to be a surprise reveal but… it was kind of obvious? I guess I was a bit thrown by the absence of a pole (as Josh acknowledged… it would’ve helped with his routine). Also, what is Josh doing now because it seemed like he’d quit?

Yeah… I think that’s it. Could still do with more Heather. I think that’s one of the things I liked about Greg’s presence in the show. His cynical takes complemented the general nature of this show.
