Further Thoughts on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend

Right, so I’ve been steadily bingewatching (NEET-life, amirite?) since the previous post (although I’m also simultaneously bingewatching The Umbrella Academy) and it’s… I think I’m hooked.

As I mentioned last time, I don’t think that the early part of S1 lines up with the way people talk about the show. Having watched a lot of episodes since then, I think it’s fair to say that the show is yet to dive headfirst into the mental health pool. HOWEVER, it’s certainly swimming in it. I especially liked the way Rebecca was on the verge of a major breakthrough of taking her therapy seriously. Why? Because I didn’t realise it was Josh that was going to buy the ring and that Rebecca would end up finding out that the pawn shop sold it. So, obviously, this would make things so much worse for her. Except, no, Josh buys the ring, proposes and that’s what makes it worse instead.

Similarly, I’m pretty sure I know what happens with this wedding plotline thanks to those Youtube comments. And if I’m correct about where it’s going, I have to say that they’ve done a good job of showing where Josh is mentally.

What I’m finding interesting is that I’m really starting to dig Nathaniel/Rebecca which is… crazy. I mean, I was all for Greg but then it occurred to me… all the “future” information I had about Greg is stuff I’ve come across. Greg might not come back! I mean, he’s got to, right? But, yeah, there’s just something about Nathaniel that makes me think that maybe he’s got a long term future on the show. Or maybe it’s just because he likes Harry Potter. I’m pretty sure the show was trying to say that he’d just be a temporary distraction but, I mean, he’s stuck in the same life that Rebecca left earlier. I guess it’s a bit like Greg. I want to put damaged people with other damaged people.

(Oh and can I just say, I liked the Greg AA plotline. Even though it has put him on a bus. In fact, it does seem like the best thing for Greg would be if he does stay permanently gone.)

Finally, I’d just like to say I was totally tricked by the end of S2E12. I was sure Darryl was going to offer to lead Rebecca down the aisle because that’s how these storylines almost always work. But, no, Nathaniel has shipped Rebecca’s deadbeat father in.

No, wait! One last thought. Needs more Heather. It’s a bit like the kids in Bones, actually. It was one thing when Heather and Rebecca were merely neighbours to not see Heather all the time, but they’re flatmates now!
